The Focusing Effect is a faux-documentary/horror film about three film students who make a doc about breakups, only to push one of their subjects too far.

Stefan Gabriel (Martin Wuttke) ist Bademeister und engagierter Vater zweier sehr unterschiedlicher Tö(⏯)chter. Die 12-jährige Jessica (Ella Frey) wird wegen ihres wenig mädchenhaften Aussehens oft für einen Jungen gehalten und hat mit einer ganzen Reihe Ticks zu kämpfen. Ihre drei Jahre ältere Schwester Sabrina (Emilia Bernsdorf) ist hingegen zwar hübsch, leidet aber unter einer schweren Krankheit. Im gleichen Maß(📹)e, wie Sabrinas Zustand schlechter wird, werden Jessicas Ticks immer schlimmer, weswegen die jü(📳)ngere Schwester einen Plan ersinnt: Ein spezielles Ritual, auf das die Geschwister in einem Buch gestoßen sind, soll für Sabrinas Heilung sorgen, allerdings muss sie dafür Sex mit einem Jungen haben. Dave Stimple, an unfocused mattress store owner, is having issues connecting with everyone around him. He arrives at the shop one morning to find the local health and safety people have shut him down. Bugs, huge bed bugs and lots of complaints are cited as the reason. Dave is really confused and his relationships with his wife, friends, and his own humanity seem to be devolving and increasingly distracting anomalies begin to take over his reality. But his issues may not be as internal as they seem.

Goliat is set in a small industrial town somewhere in Sweden. When Roland is sentenced to prison, his son, 17-year old Kimmie, is expected to provide for the family by taking over his dad's criminal business. This is a task he's not ready for. The film's depicting a boy's brutal entry into adult life and examines aspects of social heritage and patriarchal structures, at a time when the welfare is declining and Sweden is changing.
